Korkeasaari zoo is on an island in front of Helsinki. It was established in 1889 and is one of the oldest zoos in the world. It is one of the most popular attractions in Helsinki. There are over 150 species in the zoo. One of the most popular species there are the zoo’s peacocks walking around freely around the island. The area of Korkeasaari is about 22 hectares. During summertime there is a waterway connection to the island from the central market place. Korkeasaari is open all around the year. The best attraction time is the feeding time, when animals are perfectly in sight.
