Malmi Airport is located some 10km from the downtown area and is open to all. The airport building was completed in 1938 and is open to public from 09-21 o’clock. The round main building is functionalistic style and a tourism attraction. From the restaurant there one has a great view to the runways with planes landing and taking off. The airport is in general aviation use and one of the busiest airports in Finland. Continued operations are at stake though as the city has been planning to build housing on the runways. Citizens’ initiative has been made to maintain the airport in aerospace use.
